By Erin Falligant The Lilac Tunnel: My Journey with Samantha (American Girl Beforever Journey) - Erin Falligant

I am sure that "choose your own adventure" books were around when I was a child, but I don't remember ever reading any.

This book places the reader into the story by having them imagine they travel back in time to meet Samantha Parkington (a character based on one of the American Girl dolls) in 1904.  The book creates many options for the story by allowing the readers to choose between two different story lines at different points; each choice determines which options are available next.

I read through three different iterations of the tale by making different choices, and there are still some I haven't yet examined.  However, the adventures are quick and entertaining, and give the reader a taste of what childhood was like in1904.  There is also an appendix with additional information about the time period.

It was fun and entertaining, and I would recommended it for readers around age 10 and up.
