This is the story of Brr, the Cowardly Lion ... who, having been sent on a mission to interview Mother Yackle about the Wicked Witch's Grimmerie, is finding out more about himself than about the book.
As with Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, Maguire demonstrates his fondness for the original Oz books whilst adding dimensions of absurdism and dystopia that are unexpected and clever.
As with Elphaba, Brr always starts out with the best of intentions -- but everything goes terribly wrong. As he constantly tries to redeem himself, Brr learns some life lessons and increases his self-awareness.
It's a difficult book to review without delivering spoilers. Suffice it to say that fans of "Wicked" should also read this book.
