This volume finds Athos, Porthos, Aramis and d'Artagnan (appropriately enough) 20 years after their previous meeting. d'Artagnan still labors away as a lieutenant in the musketeers, whilst the other three have gone their separate ways.Called back together at cross purposes (one pair to work with Cromwell at the behest of Cardinal Mazarin and the other to work with Charles I at the behest of Queen Henrietta Maria), the foursome find themselves embroiled in numerous swashbuckling adventures both in England and France.Fans of the first stories are sure to find much to like as their aging heroes come together again.
