Sixpence House: Lost in a Town of Books

Sixpence House: Lost in A Town Of Books - Paul Collins When author Paul Collins picks up his young family and moves from San Francisco to Hay-on-Wye (a tiny Welsh village that boasts 1500 residents and 40 booksellers), he anticipates a quiet country life in which to complete his book (Banvard's Folly: Thirteen Tales of People Who Didn't Change the World) and rear his infant son. What he finds instead are dozens of antiquarian booksellers (this book contains quotes from many of the books he runs across in town), some fascinating local characters, and a number of problematic houses. All of this makes for an entertaining read as the Collins family tries to negotiate life in a small town full of eccentrics and business "opportunities."The chapter titles are very amusing in and of themselves, and the quotes from antiquarian books and magazines remarkably applicable to modern life. A very entertaining read for a bibliophile.
