The Dirks Escape

The Dirks Escape - C. Brandon Rimmer "The Dirks Escape" is the story of Dr. Gerhard Dirks, the man who pretty much invented computer technology, and his escape from Communist Germany.A nominal member of the Nazi Party during WWII, Dirks is singled out for special work details (such as filling garbage trucks with his bare hands) by the Russian Communist regime. He spends a great deal of time trying to figure out how to get his family to the West and safety, and it is during that time that he develops his concepts for computer technology and magnetic storage -- which later lead to patents. The last chapter of the book briefly discusses Dirks' conversion from atheism to Christianity, but it is far from the primary focus of the book. This work will be of interest to those studying WWII, and who enjoy a well-written biography.
