The Egypt Game (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition)

The Egypt Game (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) - I read this book as a little girl, and just re-read it for the first time in probably 35 years. In The Egypt Game, an unlikely group of students in a northern CA university town (most likely Berkeley), become interested in ancient Egypt. They set up a play area in a storage yard behind a local junk shop and reenact everything from a funeral to an oracle -- and discover many interesting things about themselves. They also learn a great many lessons, such as dealing with prejudice and fear.Snyder's characters are multi-ethnic and come from a variety of economic backgrounds and circumstances. Though originally written in 1967, the characters and their challenges still stand up today.A nice YA read.
