Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse
It has been many years since I read "Black Beauty," the book that set me on the road to my lifelong work in animal rescue and welfare. As an adult, the additional themes of caring and compassion ring throughout Sewell's text.I was especially moved by the words of Mr. Wright, one of the minor characters in the tale: "My doctrine is this, that if we see cruelty or wrong that we have the power to stop, and do nothing, we make ourselves sharers in the guilt."This is not just a book for young adults who love animals. Rather, it is a thought-provoking story about the importance of kindness.
